About Moksha
Moksha is the University of Maryland's only classical Indian dance team. As a team of talented and dedicated dancers, we bring together various forms of Indian classical dance to create unique works of performing art. We choreograph all our pieces ourselves, utilizing the expertise and creativity of all the dancers, and apply our traditional steps to contemporary music. Our goal is to raise awareness of our unique art form through performances at the University of Maryland and elsewhere.
The term "Moksha" in Sanskrit means "Liberation." For each of us, our dance is a means to free ourselves from the mundane structures of everyday routines and openly express our cultures, ideas, and emotions. Our love of dance is intertwined with our love of art and culture, and through this artistic expression we represent true liberation.
